Issues: What is facing Mono County in the months and years ahead?

2018 Strategic Priorities: In February 2018, the Board of Supervisors adopted a set of strategic priorities to guide county work. County departments are using these priorities to guide budget decisions. Among the priorities are key regional, state and national issues such as housing, infrastructure and disaster preparedness.

Housing: Affordable housing is a critical issue across the state and the nation. The county and town have completed needs assessments, and a housing action plan is ready to go. There are clear solutions, though no simple fix. It’s time to act and to work together.

  • Implement the Town of Mammoth Lakes' housing action plan.
  • Build on successful existing county programs such as the revolving loan fund to keep deed-restricted housing in place; continue and expand down payment assistance
  • Work together with employers, developers, community members and other agencies to develop new programs

Infrastructure & Facilities: The biggest capital projects in our county’s history will be built in the next five years, as well as major investments in roads and transportation. We need a smart, informed approach such as the newly development Capital Improvement Plan. The Board of Supervisors must guide these processes and keep the county on track, financially and organizationally.

  • Mammoth Offices
  • New Jail in Bridgeport
  • Road Improvements funded by SB1
  • Child Care: Mono County needs to participate in a solution to the current child care crisis, supporting the Office of Education and other agencies
  • Solid Waste/Trash & Recyclng
  • Broadband: Thanks to Digital 395, Mono County has the opportunity to connect all its communities to high speed internet access

Disaster & Emergency Preparedness: We all know it’s when, not if, a natural disaster will strike our county, and drought and other symptoms of a changing climate will impact our lives here. We need to make our county communities more prepared and resilient.

  • Improving local radio communications systems
  • Preparing for disaster and unified emergency response
  • Addressing impacts of climate change, drought and forest health

Issue Alert: County Offices in Mammoth

Board of Supervisors Continues Analysis of Options in May 2018

What's the issue?
Mono County must secure a long-term solution for its offices in Mammoth Lakes. Options include building a new government facility near the town's new police station, attempting to purchase and renovate the Mammoth Mall, and continuing to lease office space.
