The Sheet Endorses Stacy Corless

"Stacy Corless deserves reelection. Period. She’s smart, works hard, dives into the minutiae."

The Sheet Candidate Profile

Her political philosophy, in a nutshell: “It’s about maintaining fiscal responsibility while meeting the needs of constituents.”

Go to page 8 of the 4/28/18 edition of The Sheet to read more from the candidate profile of me. I've worked consistently with The Sheet and other local media to provide accurate, timely news about county projects, actions and decisions. As a writer and editor, I know the value of a positive, productive relationship with the press. That's how I earned this editorial statement in The Sheet in the May 13 2017 issue:
Mono County Supervisor Stacy Corless proved this week that a background in journalism isn’t entirely useless. She also continues to demonstrate that she is not someone to be taken lightly. Don’t Mess with ‘Less.

National Park Service Rethinks Fee Increase

Good news for Yosemite and other national parks that were on the list for an unreasonable fee hike: Interior Secretary Zinke is backing away from the proposal after receiving nearly unanimous comments in opposition. Mono County sent comments against the proposed fee increase, as did the National Association of Counties (through its Public Lands Steering Committee, of which I am a member and vice-chair of the land management subcommittee). Advocacy is important!

County Health Rankings Released

Mono County placed 15th among California's 58 counties in the recently released County Health Rankings--an improvement over last year's ranking. Good news locally but, nationwide, major gaps in health exist due to healthcare, housing and education access. Mono County needs to use this data to improve health and quality of life for residents of all our county communities.

Elections Update

As of February 12, we've moved into a new phase of the June 5, 2018 elections process: declaration of candidacy and nomination period.
Many thanks to all the District 5 voters (more than 100 people) who signed my nomination/in-lieu petition! Collecting signatures was a great way to get out and talk with residents about their ideas and concerns. These signatures qualified me for nomination to office, and I will file my declaration of candidacy later this month ahead of the March 9 deadline. According to the Mono County candidates' guide, "the Declaration of Candidacy is the official nomination document, wherein the candidate indicates how his or her name and ballot designation is to appear on the ballot. Additionally, the candidate declares that he/she meets the statutory and/or constitutional qualifications for the office sought, and that if nominated, the candidate will accept the nomination and not withdraw."
While candidates for local office complete their paperwork and move into campaign mode, voters (especially voters in Mammoth Lakes and other county communities where we have separate mailing and physical addresses) have an important task to do, too. Please follow the link below for information on how to check your voter registration to make sure that it matches your current physical address.
Every vote counts; please make sure all the details of your voter registration are correct to avoid any issues on elections day.
